The City of Parkland, Florida, truly lives up to its name. Parkland, FL is a small community of 8000 single & multi family homes nestled among larger nearby metro areas (Ft. Lauderdale is just half an hour to the south), The city of Parkland has carefully preserved its natural areas and restricted commercial development, maintaining a park-like character.
Parkland’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains six parks covering more than 96 acres. The department offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including a summer camp program, equestrian center, trails, lakes, and a number of athletic fields. The extremely moderate climate in the city of Parkland lends itself well to outdoor activities, including boating, water sports, and golf.
Parkland Florida students attend Broward County Public Schools, the nation’s sixth-largest fully-accredited school district, serving more than 274,000 K-12 students. The schools serving the Parkland community all rank near the top in statewide assessments. Private schools are also available nearby in Coral Springs, Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton. Eight colleges are located within 20 miles of Parkland, including Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and Nova South Eastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. Parkland is serviced by 4 public elementary schools including Coral Park Elementary (homes south of Sawgrass Expressway and in the city of Parkland) Heron Heights Elementary, Park Trails Elementary and Riverglades Elementary. Children living south of Sawgrass Expressway attend Forest Glen Middle School and children living north of Sawgrass Expressway attend Westglades middle School. Coral Springs High School located off of Sample Road, are for children 9-12th grade living south of Sawgrass Express Way and students living north of Sawgrass expressway attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Parkland schools are nationally ranked by Forbes magazine. Parkland schools are rated in the top 10 for the entire United States.
According to the Community Profile posted at the city of Parkland website the demographics for 2013 include approximately 25,000 residents with a median age of 39.2 and a median household of $105,602.
Unlike much of Florida, the Parkland real estate market is not dominated by planned housing developments. The town of Parkland offers both established neighborhoods and newer custom homes. Many Parkland homes are built on larger lots, from one to three acres, and the tall pine trees and cypress native to Florida are dominant in the landscaping.
